“Please support my small business”? The problem with this ask in times of crisis

by Krista Walsh | Mar 23, 2020 | Marketing, Running a business, Small business

And what business owners should do instead when sales slow down. My ears perked up the other day when I heard my roommate making fun of people who were hawking new offers online in the wake of this pandemic. “What’s your problem with self-promotion?” I asked him. I...

Phase 1 of my website copywriting process is the P Phase 1 of my website copywriting process is the Pre-Project Deep Dives. Aka, gathering all the information I need to strategize your website to attract more of your best clients.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Pre-Project Deep Dives is the ONLY time I need my clients to do a little bit of "homework:"
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1) Answer my Market & Mission Clarity Questionnaire (basic information-gathering questions)

2) Show up for a 90-minute interview with you, the founder (+ potentially other team members/partners)

3) Share the contact info for 5-6 past clients + permission for me to reach out to them for an interview

That's it!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This process is done FOR you, meaning... you don't have to put in a lot of time or effort.

Wanted to share the realness of my first step into Wanted to share the realness of my first step into entrepreneurship because it didn’t feel triumphant at the time…
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My bold, “I’m gonna do this!” moment actually came a year or two into my business, after I had repaired my relationship with myself and restored my confidence.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Before that, it felt like fear, hiding, flinching, running.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
IMO, personal healing is an underrated must-have for leading an intentional life, especially when that life is something *you* have to direct every moment of your day — like running a business.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I was able to become my best, loving, encouraging, “I believe in you” boss, then I started to feel the joy in entrepreneurship 💚
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
(obv, still on this journey or whatever — not claiming to have achieved enlightenment or something 😂)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I wish I could go give my former self a big ole hug and tell her that her panic-move into freelance was eventually going to become the best decision she ever made.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you relate to this? If you feel comfortable sharing, what healing did you have to do to become who you are today?
